The French overseas departments (Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Réunion) elects candidates to the French Senate and House of Representatives. The overseas departments follow the same rules as the metropole regarding the organization of the elections. They do however enjoy certain specificities concerning electoral expenditure : certain travel expenses of the candidates are not taken into account in the ceiling of candidates' election expenses (article L.52-12 of the electoral code). Besides, the French Parliament is discussing a bill which would allow elections to be held on Saturday in Guadeloupe, Martinique and Guiana (because of the time lag, people from these departments knew the results of the elections in the metropole before they voted).

In India, only candidates contest elections. However, some of these candidates are set-up and sponsored by political parties. There is no separate registration of political parties for contesting an election. Registration of political parties is done by the Election Commission (section 29 A of Representation Act 1951) when certain simple requirements, such as contribution of the party, name, and registered office of the party etc. are met. Also, for the registration of political parties, Rs. 10.000/- needs to be paid as a processing fee.
More important is the 'recognition' of political parties either as 'national party' or 'state party', which depends upon geographical spread of the party and a certain percentage of votes obtained in the last preceding general election. Candidates set up by recognized parties get preferential treatment in the allocation of election symbol reserved for such party.

Since the Parties Law was passed in 1992, only a party, which has been legally registered with the Party Registrar, or an alignment of two or more registered parties, which have decided to run in the elections together, can present a list of candidates and participate in the elections
According to the Parties Law (1992), a party is defined as a group of people who have come together in order to pursue legally political or social goals, and to bring about their representation in the Knesset. Since the passing of this law, there are clear regulations regarding the establishment of parties, their registration with the Parties Registrar, their institutions, assets, activities, finances, etc... The law also determines the limitations on a party's potential registration. The following prohibitions are included in these limitations:
Any rejection (in the party's goals or activities) of the existence of the State of Israel as a Jewish, democratic state.
Any incitement to racism.
Any support of the armed struggle of an enemy state or terrorist organization against the State of Israel
Any hint of a cover for illegal activity.
Only a party or parties are allowed to present a list of candidates to run for the Knesset.

The amended law gives a legal framework for a uniform procedural treatment of political parties with regard to their financing and increases the transparency of party funding. Registration in the Commercial Register increases legal certainty and transparency. The legal status is verified when a party submits its statutes and extracts from the Commercial Register after the elections to the Landtag (Article 2 para. 4).

Article 135:
Lists are formed for each constituency by political parties or groups of candidates. Candidates must accept their candidacy in the constituency by signing a declaration.
The candidates can be presented jointly by either:
100 registered voters in the constituency,
A deputy elected in the constituency, either outgoing or currently serving, or
Three elected municipal councilors from one or more municipalities in the constituency.
Each list must be submitted by a representative chosen from and by the list presenters. This representative has all the duties imposed by the law. In the case of presentation by a deputy or three municipal councilors, the representative is designated by the candidates, either from the list or from the elected officials presenting the list.
The list must include the name, surname, profession, and domicile of each candidate and presenter separately. A candidate or presenter can appear on only one list in the same constituency. No one can be a candidate in more than one constituency.
If a candidate's eligibility is in question due to past convictions, the president of the main constituency office will urgently verify the eligibility with the public prosecutor. If the candidate is found ineligible, the president will remove them from the list.
A list cannot contain more candidates than the number of deputies to be elected in the constituency. Any single candidacy is considered as a list in itself.
Every list must have a name. If multiple lists have the same name, the representatives are asked to make necessary distinctions. If they fail to do so, the president of the main constituency office will assign a letter to each list based on the order of their submission.

Registration of contestants occurs in two stages beginning with the registration of names of contesting political parties with the Electoral Council (EC). Applications with the grouping name and a deposit of EUR 450 must be submitted. Once a contestant has been approved by the EC, candidate lists can be registered along with a deposit of EUR 11,250 paid to the EC and written consent from all the candidates (OSCE 6-7). A list shall be accompanied by written declarations of support for the list from voters, listing the candidates in the same way and in the same order as on the list. In the case of an election to the House of Representatives or to a provincial or municipal council with at least 39 seats to be filled, the minimum number of declarations of support shall be 30; in the case of an election to a municipal council with fewer than 39 but more than 19 seats to be filled, the minimum number of declarations of support shall be 20, and in the case of an election to a municipal council with fewer than 19 seats to be filled the minimum number of declarations of support to be submitted shall be 10 (Section H4(1)).

To register, a party needs to show evidence of "a suitable name, 500 paying members who can enroll to vote, rules about party membership, and an auditor." A new party can also register a logo to be included on the voting paper. Once the Electoral Commission receives new party registration applications, they consult the public to inquire if there are any issues with the proposed name or logo. If the name and logo are deemed okay by public opinion, the Electoral Commission proceeds with consideration of the new party's registration application. New parties must also pay a $500 registration fee to the Commission.
Existing parties must send a statutory declaration and an audited return of party donations and loans each year to the Electoral Commission in order to register.
"Registration is not compulsory for political parties. Parties can promote the election of their electorate candidates at parliamentary elections without being registered." Unregistered parties, however, may not contest the party vote.
